Frequently Asked Questions

Some frequently asked questions regarding our extension building service, if you have any further questions feel free to contact us and we will be glad to help.

How much do I need to budget for an extension?

So many people go into a home extension project without a clear idea of what their budget actually is.

We know that most of us do not have a limitless budget which is why we will always be open and honest with you about what you can expect with any given sum of money. Your home is more often than not your most valuable financial asset which we fully understand, and we will endeavour to maximise the expansion of your home with your budget.

To know how much you need to budget for will require us to come for a chat and find out what you are looking to achieve from your extension.

Where is the best place to build my extension?

Keep in mind the lighting available for your extension. Home extensions that are positioned between properties, or at the front or rear of your home, will be shadowed for certain periods of the day.

In which direction does the sun rise and set from your property? Do you want your home extension to benefit from light in the mornings or early evenings?

Will the finished home extension make the best use of your remaining land? Will your house remain accessible both front and rear? Are there any issues with access that need to be addressed before the build starts? We know it can be difficult to visualise how it will finally look, but simply marking out a plot on your existing land can help considerably.

What about planning permission?

It’s important to do your research and find out if planning permission is required for your home extension project. It’s also vitally important to consider how your proposed home extension will affect your neighbours.

If applying for planning permission, your neighbours will have the right to object. Make sure you are on friendly terms with your neighbours before you start and that you have discussed with them what kind of build you intend to carry out.

Getting along with your neighbours really does make the whole extension building process easier all round!
